The Great Barrier Reef, the Largest Living Thing on Earth

The Great Barrier Reef, the Largest Living Thing on Earth

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world and widely considered as the largest living thing on Earth. Spanning over an area of 2300 KM in Queensland, Australia, it is home to countless species of marine beings, which have become a source of great attraction for the tourists. There are around 900 islands and over 2,900 individual reefs stuffed with amazing creatures whose mere sight provides calm and relief to the tourists. The great reef is visible from outer space and it is considered a natural wonder of the world. In order to protect the reef from human impact, its major portion has been given the status of a Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

We were in Australia in the month of November this year in order to attend an event in Sydney when a few members of our group came up with the plan of visiting the reef in Queensland. The idea was convincing and we all got on board to travel to the reef in the 2nd week of November. We boarded a domestic plane, which landed at Proserpine airport. From Proserpine Airport, we could easily travel to the Airlie, which is considered a gateway for many island resorts.

We spent a whole week visiting various famous islands here and enjoying the breathtaking experience on the offer. We went swimming, snorkeling, diving and sailing the breaths of this masterpiece of this nature. However, some of the experiences were unforgettable, which are described below.

Sailing from Cairns to Michaelmas Cay

This proved to be one of the greatest experiences as we boarded the Ocean Spirit to sail to the Michaelmas Cay. We also dived and snorkeled here, which brought us closed to colorful fish and turtles. We also took a boat tour here in order to explore the natural beauty of this place.

Sailing through the Whitsunday Islands

One of the greatest experiences at the Great Barrier Reef is sailing through the 71 idyllic Whitsunday Islands. The moonlit light and peaceful beaches of this place filled our hearts with tranquility. We also swam and snorkeled here, which brought us closer to nature.

Exploring the abundance of wildlife on Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island is rich in wildlife as a significant population of Koalas can be found here. We went out looking for Koalas here who are peacefully living across the island. There are around 23 beaches here, which are a source of leisure for the tourists. We spent a day here exploring the presence of wildlife.

Taking a Helicopter Ride over the Great Barrier Reef

One of the greatest adventures at the Great Barrier Reef is taking a helicopter ride over its most significant portion. There are few service providers and we managed to secure a great deal to take this tour. A helicopter ride gives a great account of the stretch and vastness of this place while from up top, there is an opportunity to witness huge creatures in the ocean.

We spent more than a week here going from one island to the other. This trip to the Great Barrier Reef proved to be the highlight of our Australia tour and left us eager to come back and explore it further.   Get more info about 4 things to do in Libreville Gabon here.

Why Visit Pripyat, Ukraine

Seeing Pripyat, Ukraine

Pripyat is one of the ghost towns located in northern Ukraine, near the borders between Ukraine and Belarus. It’s named after the nearby Pripyat River.

The city was founded on 4 February 1970. The city was a closed one as it was the ninth nuclear city founded by the Soviet Union. It served the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

When the Chernobyl disaster occurred, the city was evacuated on the afternoon of 27 April 1986.

The administrative district of Ivankiv Raion is where Pripyat is located but Kyiv directly has control over the city and Ukraine’s Ministry of Emergencies supervises it among the whole Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

Discovering the city is a remarkable adventure and here are some of the activities you can do there.

The Pripyat Amusement Park:

The Pripyat Amusement Park is an abandoned amusement park located in Pripyat, Ukraine.

On 1 May 1986, it was to be opened for the first time, in time for the May Day celebrations. These plans were canceled on 26 April, when the Chernobyl disaster occurred a few kilometers away from the park. Several sources say that the park was opened on 27 April before the evacuation of the city was made and one site shows photos of the amusement park in operation.

Theories that the park was hurriedly opened in the aftermath of the accident in order to distract the people of Pripyat from the unfolding disaster nearby seem to be substantiated by the fact that some of the rides were never fully completed. For example, the Paratrooper was not fitted with canopies and the Ferris wheel’s cladding was incomplete. In any case, the park and its Ferris wheel, in particular, have become a symbol of the Chernobyl disaster.

Chernobyl Visit:

Tours to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and Pripyat are unforgettable experiences. You can explore the Top Secret Military Object Duga in Chernobyl Zone. The Urbex tours In Ukraine are informative. The excursions in ex-soviet cities and military bases are adventurous. The tour includes a visit to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Underground Kyiv and a unique tour to the longest catacombs in the world.

Tschernobyl Reisen:

Professional Chernobyl tours to visit the Chernobyl area in Ukraine are arranged. With the best photography locations and a real adventurous program, you will see the disaster alive. Genuine Chernobyl private tours, retro Chernobyl tours with accommodation in Chernobyl city are offered sometimes. Professional guide and maximum safety measures for your ultimate Chernobyl experience are guaranteed.

The Conclusion:

Unlike a visit to Italy or Japan, Pripyat, Ukraine is one of the weirdest cities in the world. The disaster makes it special but it worth visiting.
